8x11 Black Patchwork Rug - 43271

At 8'2" x 11'6" (250 x 350 cm), the rug sits under a full sofa group with the legs on the rug, carries a dining table for six with the chairs still on it, or covers the floor around a king bed. The grey and black surface works best against light walls, where the change of tone from panel to panel stays readable. Measure the outside dimensions of your furniture before you decide.

The rug is handmade in stages: older wool rugs are overdyed black, cut into rectangular panels, and sewn together into a single piece. It combines a wool pile with a cotton backing, measures approximately 0.31 inch (8 mm) in total thickness, and weighs 35 kg (77 lb). The edges are overlocked and the rug has no fringe.

The panels in this rug are 60–80 years old. That age belongs to the wool that went into it, not to the finished rug, which was dyed and assembled far more recently. Each panel carries the wear of its own first life, which is why the tones differ from one to the next. Review the product images closely for the exact surface, seams, and tonal variation of this individual piece, and write to us if you would like additional photographs of a particular area before you buy.

Have the rug cleaned by a professional rug cleaner experienced with handmade wool rugs. Home washing and home spot treatments are not recommended on a handmade rug.
