This one-of-a-kind Moldovan kilim puts a bouquet of roses on a black ground. Red and pink roses fill the center panel with green leaves around them, and a wreath of smaller pink and pale blue flowers runs along the border. There is no pile, so the flowers stay sharp and the rug lies thin and flat on the floor.
Room Fit
At 5'9" x 10'6" (175 x 320 cm), the long, narrow shape fits a hallway, a wide entry, the foot of a bed, or a living room where it sits under a coffee table between two seats. In a hallway, measure the width of the passage first: at 5'9" this kilim is wider than a runner and needs a generous corridor or an open entry. The black ground keeps the flowers from taking over a room.
Origin & Craftsmanship
Handmade in Moldova approximately 40–50 years ago, this kilim is a flatweave: the pattern is built in the weave itself rather than knotted into a pile. It combines wool with a cotton foundation, measures approximately 0.24 inch (6 mm) in total thickness, and weighs 11 kg (about 24 lb). The short ends finish in pale fringe.
Pattern & Condition
The roses on one half do not mirror the other exactly, and the black of the ground shifts slightly along the length. Both are normal in a handwoven kilim. Care & Cleaning
