What is an Overdyed Rug?
Overdyed rugs are dyed vintage rugs. The dyes used in the dyeing procedure are 100% vegetable root dyes.
Overdyed carpets are one of the rising trends of carpet fashion in the recent years. Overdyeing is a repurposing method that gives old and used carpets a new look. This method uses existing carpets rather than newly made carpets. Wool on cotton or wool on wool double knotted carpets are preferred for overdyed. Since Turkish carpets are double knotted, the structure that comprises of thewarp, the weft and the knot is solid. The pile which is created by the knots stay intact for years due to this technique. 30 - 70 year old carpets are accepted as semi-old carpets. If used well, they preserve their condition within this time period because of their solid structure. Deformations may occur if these carpets are used harshly. These carpets may be found all over Anatolia. After being categorized according to their condition, they are cleaned, disinfected, dyed and become ready for home use.
