What is Vintage?
Everyone knows that vintage is the rising decor trend. The word vintage means, things that were used in the past, preserved well and now are being reused. It reflects a whole style. One of the most important things about vintage is the repurposing of old items; it is a fashion of reusing what we have. It may be explained by reaction to fast consumption.

We can define a product as vintage if it was made in the 1930s to 1990s if they are reflecting the spirit of their production day.
What is a Vintage Rug?
Vintage Turkish rugs were made between 1940 to 1990 in Turkey / Anatolia in various regions and they have are repurposed products in our day and thus named as vintage rugs. Vintage rugs are also known as distressed rugs.
How is a Vintage Rug made?
Vintage rugs are widely used in Turkish homes. They are obtained from various villages of Anatolia. The pile is 2 - 3 centimeters on these rugs. First they are spinned in a device called ‘dust wheel’ and the dust in it is removed. After the dust wheel the pile is shortened with a shaving device. After the pile is shortened these rugs are washed 4 - 5 times. This washing procedure results in the softening of the colors the rug. The sharp colors of the rug is replaced by a more neutral softer look.
After the washing procedure the rugs are sent to the south of Anatolia, to Antalya region for the colors to become more pastel as the sun has this effect on rugs after the washing procedure. The rugs are left in the sun for a month. The only thing done in this period is to flip the rugs from time to time for them to get equal sunlight on both sides. During this period fields are full of rugs and they spread as far as the eye can see. Antalya region is preferred for this process because this region gets the most sunlight in Turkey from dawn to sunset and the temperature gets as high as 45 degrees Celsius. After their time in the fields the rugs are washed 2 - 3 times and they are ready for home use.
